Safaricom Hook and Sprite Empower Eldoret University Students with Digital Skills

Safaricom (NSE: SCOM), through its youth platform Safaricom Hook, in partnership with Sprite, yesterday hosted the Hook’d on Fresh Masterclass Series at the University of Eldoret, engaging over 300 students and young people from the university and nearby communities.

The program focused on content creation, digital monetization, and practical skills, equipping participants with the tools and knowledge to excel in Kenya’s fast-growing digital economy.

The session featured mentorship from industry experts, including musician Collo Blue and dance creator Tileh Pacbro, who shared actionable tips, creative strategies, and hands-on guidance to help young creators succeed.

“I’m delighted that Safaricom and Sprite brought this masterclass to our university. I’ve learned that platforms like Safaricom Hook are useful not only for entertainment but also for research and studies, thanks to affordable internet bundles,” said Norman Kipkurgat, a second-year student at University of Eldoret.

The Eldoret session follows last week’s first Hook’d on Fresh Masterclass at JKUAT, marking the start of a nationwide campaign to equip Kenyan youth with digital skills, creativity, and financial literacy to thrive in modern careers.

“The Hook’d on Fresh campaign is designed to empower creators with the skills, tools, and inspiration they need to thrive in the digital content economy. We also engaged youth on the importance of saving early and exploring opportunities in technology and digital platforms,” said Fawzia Ali, Chief Consumer Business Officer, Safaricom.

The masterclass series will continue touring universities across the country, providing students with digital skills and access to products such as Ziidi Invest and Save, designed to support their daily hustle and entrepreneurial growth.

In addition, Safaricom and Sprite launched the Hook’d on Fresh User Generated Content (UGC) Challenge, a nationwide digital competition inviting young Kenyans to showcase creativity through short-form videos. Participants can share their “fresh” take on music, sports, fashion, and comedy on TikTok and Instagram, using hashtags #HookdonFresh and #SafaricomHook, while tagging Sprite Kenya and Safaricom Hook for a chance to win prizes.

The competition features 403 winners across nine tiers, with cash prizes ranging from KES 3,000 to KES 20,000, as well as smartphones and data bundles. Winners are selected monthly.

By blending mentorship, creativity, competition, and financial literacy, the Hook’d on Fresh Masterclass Series empowers young Kenyans to innovate, showcase talent, and establish themselves as digital creators ready to seize opportunities in the evolving digital economy.
