Kayole Starlets have strengthened their squad for the second leg of the Kenya Premier League by signing three promising players from the Safaricom Chapa Dimba All-Stars, reinforcing the club’s commitment to nurturing young homegrown talent and creating pathways for youth in football.
The new recruits—Sonia Wambui (goalkeeper), Calta Nasambu (striker), and Naomi Nanjala (position)—bring a wealth of experience from their time with Barcelona Ladies SC in Laikipia, a team competing in the National Super League (NSL). They also gained international exposure through the Chapa Dimba All-Stars bootcamp in Huesca, Spain, last September.
Having represented the Central Region at the Season Four Chapa Dimba national finals in Kisumu, the trio is well-prepared to contribute to Kayole Starlets’ ambitions in the Premier League.
“I am thrilled to join Kayole Starlets. Playing in the Premier League has been a dream of mine since competing in the National Super League. Safaricom Chapa Dimba has opened doors for me, giving me the platform to showcase my talent and pursue my football ambitions,” said Naomi Wanjala.
The three join fellow Chapa Dimba alumni, Eunice ‘Bobi’ Nabwoba and Praxedes Shivikhwa, who previously represented Wiyeta Girls in Season Four and bring additional skill and experience to the squad. Nabwoba also played for Amus College in Uganda, demonstrating the regional opportunities that grassroots football can unlock.
“Safaricom Chapa Dimba is a critical platform for youth development in football. It equips players with technical skills, exposure, and confidence to compete at higher levels. These new additions to Kayole Starlets will help us strengthen our team and inspire other young talents across the country,” said Kayole Starlets coach Joshua Sakwa during training at Calvary Sports Grounds, Nairobi.
Safaricom Chapa Dimba continues to impact the local football ecosystem, with over 30 players from the most recent season joining clubs in the National Super League and Kenya Premier League, including Emily Morang’a (Kenya Police), Duncan Omala (Nairobi United), Derick Okech (Shabana FC), Austine Odongo (Shabana FC), Stanley Waswa (Ulinzi Stars), Bryton Otieno (Gor Mahia), Brian Aroko (Tusker Youth), Lorrine Illavonga (Ulinzi Starlets), Mercy Akoth (Vihiga Queens), Swaumu Masungo (Kibera Soccer Women), and Marion Serenge (St. Noa – Uganda).
Other notable alumni since the tournament’s inception include Atem Kato (Penn State Nittany Lions), Jentrix Shikangwa (Simba Queens), Brain Enock Wanyama (Tatung FC, Taiwan), Benson Omala (Nairobi United), David Majak (Kariobangi Sharks), Jane Hato (Master’s University), Judith Osimbo (Ulinzi Starlets), and Cynthia Livondo.
Currently positioned seventh in the league, Kayole Starlets aim to leverage their strengthened squad to finish in the top three, demonstrating that grassroots programs like Safaricom Chapa Dimba are vital for developing talent, building careers, and empowering youth through football.
Safaricom Chapa Dimba, targeting youth aged 16–20, continues to provide platforms that transform lives, create pathways for professional football, and nurture the next generation of Kenyan sports stars.
