KCB Introduces Sahl Card in Partnership With Mastercard

KCB Bank has partnered with Mastercard to roll out an Islamic finance payments solution aimed at increasing access to Shariah-compliant banking services in Kenya as lenders seek to tap into the growing demand for faith-based financial products.

The partnership has seen the launch of the Sahl Card under KCB’s Sahl Banking proposition, giving customers a secure and convenient way to manage their spending while accessing lifestyle and travel benefits designed in line with Islamic finance principles.

The bank also unveiled the Sahl Agency Banking network, which will allow customers to deposit money, withdraw cash, make payments and access other banking services through agents spread across the country.

The new products have been structured to comply with Islamic finance principles, enabling customers to carry out everyday transactions while staying true to their financial values and preferences.

“We remain committed to developing financial solutions that reflect the diverse needs and aspirations of our customers. The Sahl Card represents an important step in expanding access to Shariah-compliant banking solutions by providing customers with a secure, convenient and values-driven payment option that supports their everyday financial and lifestyle needs,” said Mark Mwongela.

The Sahl Card comes with a range of benefits aimed at customers seeking Muslim-friendly lifestyle and travel experiences. Holders of the Mastercard World Elite and Gold Credit Cards will gain access to exclusive offers on accommodation, shopping, dining and leisure experiences through Mastercard’s global network.

According to Shehryar Ali, the collaboration seeks to deepen financial inclusion by offering payment solutions that reflect customers’ values and lifestyles.

“We are actively powering an inclusive digital economy where every individual and community can pay with confidence. Our collaboration with KCB gives consumers a payment solution built around their values and lifestyle. By combining our global network with KCB’s deep local expertise, we are connecting the Islamic banking community to the experiences and passions that matter most to them,” he said.

Eligible cardholders will also have access to The Mastercard Collection, a premium package of travel, dining and lifestyle experiences available to World Elite Mastercard customers.

The offering includes exclusive dining privileges, travel benefits and specially curated experiences designed to enrich customers’ lives both locally and internationally where available.

Additional features include spending controls, transaction alerts, concierge services and an Islamic-themed card design tailored to reflect the values and preferences of the target market.

The launch underscores the growing focus by financial institutions on developing products that cater to underserved market segments while promoting greater financial inclusion through value-based banking solutions.
