Netblocks, a global watchdog, has confirmed through a statement on X, formerly twitter that there is limited access to messaging platform , Telegram, during the June 25th demonstrations.
They wrote, ” Live metrics show restrictions to messaging platform Telegram in Kenya are now in effect: the measure comes as authorities issue a ban on live media coverage of the June 25 anniversary protests, ”’the organization shared.
On 25th June 2025 at 4:00 pm, Telegram’s reachability had dropped by 1 percent and locked out a large number of users.
The restriction happened at the same time as the government’s directive rom the Communications Authority that restricted the live broadcasting of th maandamano events.
According to activists and other civil society groups, Telegram has been crucial in mobilising the youth and genz organisers especially during the protests.
