Spotify has rolled out a new in-app feature that lets users in Kenya and Nigeria explore two decades of their listening history, as the music streaming platform marks its 20th anniversary.

Dubbed Spotify 20: Your Party of the Year(s), the mobile-only experience uses Spotify’s listening data to generate a personalised retrospective, highlighting users’ music habits and milestones since joining the platform.

The feature provides insights such as the date a user first joined Spotify, their first streamed song, the total number of unique songs they have listened to, their all-time most-streamed artist, and a playlist of their top 120 songs ranked by play count.

Each insight is accompanied by a shareable digital card, allowing users to post their personalised results across social media or send them directly to friends, underscoring Spotify’s continued focus on social engagement and user retention.

The launch reflects a growing trend among technology platforms to leverage years of user-generated data to create personalised experiences that encourage engagement while reinforcing customer loyalty.

“Spotify has always been about making listening personal. With Spotify 20, we’re giving fans in Nigeria and Kenya a chance to look back at the artists, songs and moments that have shaped their journey with us,” said Jocelyne Muhutu-Remy, Spotify’s Managing Director for Africa.

The feature forms part of Spotify’s global 20th anniversary celebrations, which also showcase the platform’s most-streamed content over the past two decades. Globally, Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny and Drake rank as Spotify’s three most-streamed artists of all time. Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Ti is the platform’s most-streamed album, while The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights remains its most-streamed song.

Spotify has also introduced a dedicated Spotify 20 hub featuring editorial playlists celebrating defining music trends, genres and cultural moments from the past 20 years.

Eligible users can access the feature through the Spotify mobile app by searching for “Spotify 20” or “Party of the Year(s).”
