Safaricom Unveils Affordable Bundle Ya Wakulima for Farmers
Farmers in Meru County have received a boost to their agricultural activities following the rollout of Safaricom’s integrated Bundle Ya Wakulima solution, designed to provide farmers with connectivity, insurance, advisory services and production support.
The solution, which is available to farmers across the country, is part of Safaricom’s PATA MORE customer value proposition and seeks to provide additional benefits and greater value to customers through a single affordable package.
Farmers can access Bundle Ya Wakulima by dialing *544*16#.
Speaking during a farmer engagement and empowerment forum in Meru that brought together more than 500 farmers from the region, Safaricom Chief Consumer Business Officer Fawzia Ali said the company was committed to supporting farmers as part of efforts to strengthen food security.
“Meru is one of Kenya’s agricultural powerhouses, and supporting farmers is critical to strengthening food security. Through PATA MORE Bundle Ya Wakulima brings together affordable connectivity, protection, and growth support, giving farmers the tools and services they need to increase productivity and build resilient livelihoods.”
The Bundle Ya Wakulima combines voice, data, SMS and WhatsApp access with insurance options, agricultural advisory services and discounted production support.
Farmers can also benefit from discounted farm inputs and mechanisation services, as well as credit pathways for eligible farmers.
The solution has been developed using farmer data and insights, with Safaricom recognising the continued importance of voice-based communication in how farmers exchange information and make agricultural decisions.
The bundle is available in daily, weekly, monthly, 90-day and 180-day options, allowing farmers to select packages based on their needs and the different stages of the agricultural season.
The daily package costs KSh40 and provides 250MB, 20 minutes, free WhatsApp, Tuunza Mapato insurance benefits, farm input discounts, Seeds of Gold and access to the WhatsApp Farming Companion.
The weekly package costs KSh300, offering 1.5GB, 100 minutes and similar farming-related benefits.
The monthly package costs KSh1,200 and provides 7.5GB and 500 minutes, while the 90-day package costs KSh3,500, offering 25GB and 1,500 minutes.
The 180-day package costs KSh6,500 and provides 56GB and 3,000 minutes.
The insurance component includes KSh30,000 inpatient cover and KSh100,000 funeral cover, while qualifying packages also provide farm input discounts, Seeds of Gold content and access to the WhatsApp Farming Companion.
The Meru engagement forum marked the fifth regional farmer event, following similar engagements in Kirinyaga, Bomet, Nakuru and Bungoma.
Safaricom said the solution is intended to support farmers throughout the farming cycle by bringing essential services together in one convenient package.
