Safaricom and Sprite Ignite a Nationwide Youth Creativity Movement with Hook’d on Fresh Masterclasses

Safaricom (NSE: SCOM), through its youth platform Safaricom-Hook, and Sprite Kenya have launched the Hook’d on Fresh Masterclass Series, a nationwide initiative designed to equip young Kenyans with digital content skills and monetization opportunities.

Part of the “It’s That Fresh” campaign, the programme provides students with practical guidance on content creation, trends, virality, and engagement strategies—skills that can help them turn passion into income.

The series kicks off on 13th March at JKUAT and will visit four university campuses, reaching an estimated 40,000 students.

Top influencers including Carrie Wahu, Tileh Pacbro, Charisma, and dance collective Cluster KE will host the sessions, sharing firsthand knowledge and insights from the digital content world.

Students will also engage in hands-on activities, fueled by Sprite and the Safaricom Hook BLIVE Bundle on 555#, allowing them to immediately implement what they learn online.

Hook’d on Fresh UGC Challenge: Skills That Pay

Alongside the masterclasses, Sprite and Safaricom are running the Hook’d on Fresh User Generated Content (UGC) Challenge, a nationwide competition encouraging students to create short-form videos in music, fashion, comedy, or sports.

Content must be shared on TikTok or Instagram, using #HookdOnFresh and #SafaricomHook, and tagging Sprite Kenya and Safaricom Hook pages.

The challenge rewards 403 digital creators across nine levels. Cash prizes range from KES 3,000 at entry level to KES 20,000 for top performers, with additional rewards including smartphones and data bundles.

Top performers will be recognized monthly based on cumulative views, providing a sustained incentive for content creation beyond the masterclasses.

Building Skills, Exposure, and Opportunities

“Hook’d on Fresh is about giving young Kenyans the skills and platform to showcase their talent while unlocking opportunities for growth and recognition,” said Juliana Kituma, Director of Marketing, Coca-Cola Kenya. “Our partnership with Safaricom ensures students can seamlessly translate campus learning into digital success and tangible rewards.”

The Safaricom Hook Green Couch will also visit campuses as a “podcast on wheels”, providing students with a space to share authentic stories, ambitions, and experiences in a youth-led, interactive environment.

“Connectivity is more than data—it’s about opening doors for creativity and opportunity,” said Fawzia Ali-Kimanthi, Chief Consumer Business Officer, Safaricom PLC. “Through Hook’d on Fresh, we are empowering students to create, innovate, and be rewarded for their talent while building a presence in the digital economy.”

With the Hook’d on Fresh Masterclass Series, Safaricom and Sprite are doing more than hosting campus events—they are cultivating a generation of Kenyan creators who can learn, earn, and gain recognition, proving that staying fresh under pressure is both a mindset and a marketable skill.
