KRA Rules Out Extension for 2025 Tax Return Filing Deadline

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has ruled out extending the deadline for filing 2025 Income Tax returns, urging taxpayers who have not yet submitted their returns to do so before midnight on Tuesday, June 30.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the tax authority said all taxpayers with an income tax obligation must file their returns by the statutory deadline, warning that late filers will face penalties and could be subjected to default tax assessments.

KRA said millions of taxpayers had already complied with the requirement and encouraged those yet to file to avoid waiting until the last minute.

“There will be no extension of the filing deadline. All returns must be submitted on or before 30 June 2026, in accordance with the law,” the authority said.

The agency emphasized that filing tax returns is not only a legal obligation but also contributes to national development by supporting government financing for essential public services.

To ease the filing process, KRA said taxpayers can submit their returns through several digital platforms, including the iTax system, eCitizen, USSD service (2225#), and WhatsApp support.

The authority has also extended operating hours at its Contact Centre, Huduma Centres, KRA Service Centres, social media support channels and Ushuru Mashinani Service Partners across the country to assist taxpayers during the final days of the filing period.

Taxpayers requiring assistance have been advised to contact the KRA Contact Centre by phone, email or social media, or visit the nearest KRA office or Ushuru Mashinani Service Partner.

KRA warned that increased traffic on its digital platforms in the final hours before the deadline could cause delays, urging taxpayers to file early to avoid last-minute challenges and ensure compliance.

The authority thanked Kenyans who had already filed their returns and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting taxpayers throughout the filing period.
