Cash it on Jiji Campaign Launched to transform second-hand economy

Jiji, the leading online marketplace in Kenya, has successfully launched its transformative campaign, “Cash it on Jiji.”

The primary objective of this initiative is to provide individuals with an opportunity to monetize idle items, thus revolutionising the second-hand economy.

By opening an account on Jiji and placing at least one ad, participants stand a chance to earn up to KSh 30,000.

During the giveaway period, Jiji Kenya awarded a total of 48 winners with merchandise and cash prizes, reaching up to KSh 30,000.

This campaign attracted thousands of new sellers from all corners of Kenya, showcasing a remarkable surge in product listings.

Jiji’s success demonstrates that when individuals possess the ambition to accomplish their goals, the right opportunities will present themselves.

Data from the United Nations (UNComtrade) shows that Kenya’s used items surged by over 500% from 2005 ($27 million) to 2022 ($172 million).

This therefore means the second-hand economy is expanding by leaps and bounds.

Lynn Peters, the final winner of the campaign who received KSh 30,000, expressed her gratitude, stating, “I recently left my job and was unsure of where to begin. With this prize money, I can now purchase more products and sell them through the Jiji platform.”

Almost 84% of Kenya’s working population are employed in the informal sector. This is according to Kenya’s Country report, 2022.

Most enterprises begin operating in the informal sector, as they cannot afford the costs of formal registration and consequent taxation.

Jiji comes in handy with this campaign which aims to help more individuals start selling without having to establish a shop or go through the tedious process of registration.

Andrew Annyke, elated upon receiving his KSh 20,000 cash prize, shared his excitement, saying, “Words cannot describe how I feel. I’ve been purchasing furniture from carpenters and reselling them on Jiji. Winning this money has inspired me to consider buying materials like fabric and timber to start my own business.”

Jiji Kenya remains dedicated to its mission of providing a platform for both businesses and individuals to connect, thrive, and succeed.

The Jiji team firmly believes that by selling items no longer needed, individuals can not only earn money but also help those in need acquire essential products at affordable prices.

Maksym Golubev, Regional Manager of Jiji East Africa, conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to all Jiji users, stating, “We are immensely grateful to all the Jiji users. It is through our collective efforts that we can bring about significant change in our reality. We firmly believe that Kenyans deserve a high standard of living. Every unused item in your home holds value. If you no longer need those shoes, post them on Jiji and allow someone else to benefit from them.”
