Carrefour Introduces Self-Checkout Service at its Village Market Store

Carrefour, which Majid Al Futtaim owns the exclusive rights to operate in Kenya, has announced the launch of self-checkout services at its Village Market store. This is the second Carrefour store to offer self-checkout services, following the successful pilot at the Westgate Shopping Mall store last March.

Since, Carrefour has witnessed a 59% increase in customer satisfaction ratings and loyalty, underscoring the importance of investing in technology to enhance customers’ shopping experience.

“The launch of the self-checkout service last year was a significant milestone for our business. We have seen our customers enjoy reduced waiting time at the checkout counters, resulting in a more efficient shopping experience. Today, as we expand the service to our second store, we look forward to providing our customers with enhanced convenience.” said Christophe Orcet, Majid Al Futtaim Retail Regional Director for East Africa.

Over the years, Carrefour Kenya has come to be known for its dedication to investing in technology and identifying solutions to improve customer satisfaction, being the first retailer to launch a digital loyalty programme in the country.

“The ever-evolving retail industry requires consistent innovation and keeping up with customers’ demands. We plan to introduce self-checkout systems in more stores in the future as we strive to create seamless shopping experiences for all our customers,” Orcet added.

The self-checkout service has witnessed a 59% increase in customer satisfaction scores since its pilot in March last year.

Currently, Carrefour operates 22 stores in the country with Nairobi hosting 17 stores, two in Kisumu and three in Mombasa.

Carrefour resources over 80 per cent of its products from the region.
