Kenya is hosting the Microsoft Kenya AI Tour, a high-profile event aimed at showcasing the latest advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and its transformative impact across industries.
The event, part of Microsoft’s global AI tour, has brought together tech leaders, government officials, and business executives to explore how AI can drive economic and technological progress in Kenya.
Phillis Migwi, Microsoft Kenya’s Country Director, said it is important for a collaboration in harnessing AI’s potential.
She noted that Microsoft, alongside partners like G42, is committed to scaling AI knowledge and skills, with a target of training one million Kenyans by 2027. Already, over 173,000 people have completed AI training, and 17,800 have obtained certifications in just four months.
Microsoft’s VP of Azure AI Products, Marco Casalaina, highlighted three key AI breakthroughs: multi-modal interfaces, advanced reasoning capabilities, and memory support, all of which are shaping the future of intelligent agents.
He emphasized how AI-powered co-pilots and agents are transforming workplaces by increasing efficiency, enhancing customer engagement, and fostering innovation.
Eng. John Tanui, Principal Secretary for ICT, expressed Kenya’s commitment to embracing AI through supportive policies and strategic partnerships.
He revealed that Kenya is on the verge of launching an AI strategy and policy framework, ensuring the country is well-positioned to leverage AI-driven opportunities for economic growth.
With Kenya being the fifth African stop on Microsoft’s global AI tour, the event underscores the country’s growing role as a regional technology hub.
The discussions and partnerships formed during the tour are expected to accelerate AI adoption across businesses, government, and SMEs, solidifying Kenya’s place in the global AI revolution.
