Civic tech initiative GoVote, powered by Co-Creation Hub (CcHUB), has announced a strategic partnership with Kenya-based Open Institute aimed at deepening civic education, democratic participation, and government accountability across East and West Africa.
The partnership brings together GoVote’s track record of empowering Nigerian voters through accessible, election-focused information and the Open Institute’s experience in promoting open governance and grassroots engagement throughout Kenya and the region.
Together, the two organizations seek to create stronger civic ecosystems by equipping civil society organizations (CSOs), human rights defenders, policymakers, and everyday citizens with the tools and knowledge needed for effective participation in governance.
“At GoVote, we are focused on helping citizens understand their role in shaping governance and leveraging digital technology to strengthen democracy,” said Eweka Yvonne, Senior Programmes Manager for Election and Governance at CcHUB.
“This partnership with the Open Institute allows us to take this mission further—beyond elections—by fostering long-term civic engagement, inclusive governance, and active citizenship across the continent.”
The collaboration will focus on expanding access to civic education content, promoting open data initiatives, and connecting digital platforms like GoVote.ng with community-led efforts such as Somo Africa.
The aim is to close information gaps, drive innovation, and support participatory systems that improve decision-making and hold leaders accountable.
“We are excited to collaborate with GoVote to scale meaningful civic action and governance reform,” said Loise Mboo, Chief of Staff and Director of Team Wellness at the Open Institute.
“This partnership is about strengthening democratic institutions and networks of CSOs and CBOs by empowering them with the information and agency to influence change.”
As democratic institutions across Africa face increasing pressure, this East-West Africa alliance is positioned to champion citizen-led governance and advance inclusive, tech-enabled democracy across the continent.
